The U.S. Senate has approved sweeping sanctions against Russia.
The move forces president Donald Trump to accept the hard-line against Moscow – or veto the bill.
The Senate vote follows the passage of a House bill earlier this week to punish Russia, Iran and North Korea for various violations – and in effect, it would sharply limit president Trump’s ability to suspend – or lift – sanctions on Russia.
It won near unanimous support across the Republican-led Congress.
