Despite Canadian government travel advisories and signs at the border – more and more Americans are crossing into Canada this summer – carrying guns.
For example..in Saint John New Brunswick alone – six Americans on vacation have been charged with bringing handguns across the border.
The fines for the offence range from $1,500 to $2,000 – and federal prosecutor Peter Thorn, from Hampton, New Brunswick says most of the people caught are “respectful, law abiding citizens of the U.S.A. ” who aren’t aware that handguns are prohibited in Canada.
He says many don’t realize that they can legally declare firearms – and leave them behind as they enter the country.
Thorn says many of the tourists are 60 and older – and from the southern U.S.
