It seems it wasn’t so long ago we were telling you about a new survey suggesting too much standing is bad for your health.
Well, today there’s more evidence that sitting can hurt your health.
Researchers at the Columbia University Medical Center looked at almost 8000 adults and monitored their total sedentary time over four years using a hip accelerometer.
The study found that those with uninterrupted sitting time of more than 30 minutes — combined with a daily inactivity period of greater than 12 hours — had the highest risk of early death.
Given that the average adult is sedentary for about 10 hours a day, the researchers conclude that a quick walk around the office twice an hour might be extremely beneficial for your health.
