Alex Trebek received one of the country’s top honours at Rideau Hall for instilling ”a love of learning in millions of people around the world.  Off-camera, he is a champion of geographic literacy in the United States and Canada through his work with their geographic societies.”
Governor General Julie Payette also presented the distinction of members of the order to the members of the Tragically Hip.

Rob Baker, Johnny Fay, Paul Langlois and Gord Sinclair were honoured for their cultural contributions and work on behalf of social and environmental causes.
The group’s late frontman, Gord Downie, was honoured during a ceremony last June for his work in raising awareness of Indigenous issues.
Downie died of brain cancer last month.
