Toronto’s St. Michael’s Hospital will be home to a $30-million multiple sclerosis treatment and research centre.

It will take up the top two floors of the hospital’s new 17-storey Peter Gilgan Patient Care Tower now under construction.

The centre, scheduled to open in 2020, will offer one-stop care where patients will be able to be diagnosed, treated and given the opportunity to take part in research.

It’ll be known as the BARLO MS Centre, named after John and Jocelyn Barford and Jon and Nancy Love, two families who donated $10-million apiece to the cause.

As part of the announcement, the St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation is launching a campaign to raise another $10-million.

St. Michael’s has the largest MS clinic in the country with about 7,000 patients.

Canada already has the highest prevalence of MS in the world.

One out of every 340 Canadians has the disease which affects three times as many women.
