They are widely used by coffee drinkers – but those single serve coffee pods – aren’t always environmentally sensitive.
So –  a member of the Ontario legislature wants to change that.
PC Norm Miller has introduced a private members bill – calling for all single serve coffee pods sold in Ontario to be compostable.

And the bill has passed the important second reading stage in the legislature.

It will now go before committee hearings – and will face another vote before it has a chance of becoming law.

Some Ontario municipalities say their waste systems aren’t yet able to process compostable coffee pods.

But Miller says his bill would take effect in four years – and the government could help municipalities adjust during that time.
