The Canadian Transportation Agency’s ruled Air Transat broke its agreement with passengers when it left them stranded on two planes on the tarmac of Ottawa International July 31.

The CTC has ordered the airline to clarify how passengers on diverted planes should be treated, and to pay passengers out-of-pocket expenses.

The agency also levied an administrative fine of $300,000 – which could be waived if the airline divides the amount and gives it to the passengers, between $400 and $500 per person.

Air Transat Flight TS157 from Brussels was delayed six hours.

Flight TS507 from Rome sat in Ottawa over four hours.

Air Transat’s tariff or agreement with passengers says passengers have the right to get off a grounded plane after 90 minutes if the captain decides its okay and that the crew has to offer drinks and snacks if it’s safe to do so.
