First the Wynne government came up with its Fair Hydro Plan, and now it’s unveiled the Fair Auto Insurance Plan.
The aim is to promote better care for crash victims and make premiums more affordable for the province’s nearly 10,000,000 drivers.
Finance Minister Charles Sousa says the cost of auto insurance fraud’s estimated to be as high as $1.6-billion-a-year and that it’s time to stop it.
The government says it will develop standard treatment plans for common injuries suffered in crashes, such as sprains and whiplash, created independent and neutral exam centres to provide medical assessments for more serious injuries and set up a Serious Fraud Office.
The announcement follows a government-commissioned report last spring which found Ontario has the most expensive premiums in the country despite also having among the lowest number of collisions and fatalities.
