Researchers from Health Canada warn vaccination rates for Canadians, who are most at risk of developing flu-related complications, remain dangerously low, while at the same time admitting that this year’s flu shot may not be all that effective.
According to the government agency, vulnerable seniors, pregnant women and children all fail to meet Health Canada’s vaccination goal of 80%.
The experts still say it’s important to get the flu shot which, at the very least, will lessen the flu’s impact and protect you from infecting others.
The flu shot is available free of charge. It covers the H-3-N-2 virus which caused a two and a half times jump in infections and doubled the hospitalizations and deaths in Australia during its flu season.
