Members of the Ontario legislature have approved legislation relating to marijuana sales in the province.
The Cannabis Act passed 63-27 with the backing of the Liberals and NDP while the PCs voted no.
This creates a provincial agency that’ll distribute and sell pot through stores and online which will be
overseen by the LCBO.
Stiff fines could top $1-million against those companies and individuals who sell the drug illegally.
The bill passed the day after Ottawa agreed to give the provinces and territories 75% of marijuana tax revenue and set a target price for pot of about $10-a-gram.
The federal government’s aiming to have it legalized by July 1, 2018.
