A new portrait of Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh, is to go on display in the UK and Denmark next year.
In the painting, Philip is shown at Windsor Castle wearing the sash of the Order of the Elephant which is Denmark s highest-ranking honour.
Philip was actually born a Prince of Denmark.  His grandfather, George I of Greece, was also a Danish prince born in Copenhagen.  Philip’s great-grandfather, Christian IX was King of Denmark from 1863 to 1906.

The painting will hang at the Museum of National History at Frederiksborg Castle in Denmark next year as part of an exhibition designed to explore the historical and cultural connections between the royal families of Britain and Denmark. The portrait will also go on display in the United Kingdom some time in 2018.
