A United Nations resolution against President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital has passed by a vote of 128-9 at the General Assembly.
Canada was one of 35 countries that abstained.
Twenty-one countries were absent.

Canada’s ambassador to the U.N., Marc-Andre Blanchard told the General Assembly that Canada continues to support building the conditions necessary for the parties to find a peaceful solution.
“We are disappointed that this resolution is one-sided and does not advance prospects for peace to which we aspire, which is why we have abstained on today’s vote.”
In response to the rebuke, U.S. ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley says Washington’s position is final and suggested that the UN vote harms its credibility.
Ahead of the vote, President Trump threatened to cut off U.S. aid to countries that vote against the resolution.
