The family of Barry and Honey Sherman is trying to pursue an investigation independent of the continuing Toronto police probe into the billionaire couple’s mysterious deaths.

A report in the Globe and Mail says one of Canada’s most prominent defence lawyers, Brian Greenspan, is lending his informal assistance to the relatives of the Shermans who were found dead in their Toronto mansion last Friday.

A coroner’s investigation has found both died from ligature neck compression.

The family is said to be looking for their own answers after previously urging police to conduct a thorough, intensive and objective criminal investigation.

75 year old Barry Sherman and his 70 year old wife Honey Sherman were highly regarded for their work and generosity in the community.

Josh Cooper is the president and CEO of the Baycrest Foundation. He says they weren’t just generous with their money, but also with their time.

“There were times when Honey could be at Baycrest two or three times in a week, and they weren’t just donors, they were part of the fabric of Baycrest. They were there on a regular basis as I know they were with all of their charitable commitments,” Cooper explained to Zoomer Radio News.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Premier Kathleen Wynne and Toronto Mayor John Tory are be among the thousands expected to attend Thursday’s memorial.
