As some businesses complain about a drop in customers and have even threatened legal action over the King Street transit pilot project, city hall’s announced initiatives aimed at improving their bottom line.
The city’s announced it’ll launch a new program to promote local restaurants in the pilot area that’ll run from February 19 to March 29.
”King Street Eats” will be similar to the annual ”Winterlicious” program.

Mayor John Tory says the city’s also identified 15 locations for new public spaces along the curb lane, starting in the spring, including extended patios, art installations and other attractions.
The competition, called ”Everyone is King,” will accept public submissions for the spaces that’ll range in length from 15 to 140 metres.
In the meantime, there’ll be warming stations, ice sculptures and street performs to ensure that stretch of King Street remains vibrant during the winter.
