A potentially deadly E. coli outbreak linked to romaine lettuce in several provinces — including here in Ontario — appears to be over.

An all clear has been given by the Public Health Agency of Canada to eat romaine lettuce once again.

There was an E. coli outbreak linked to romaine, with 42 cases reported, and one death.

The agency says there have been no reports since the onset of illness December 12th.

Based on the investigation to date, the agency says exposure to romaine lettuce has been identified as the source of the outbreak, but the cause of contamination has not been determined.

A number of restaurant chains in Canada had stopped serving dishes with romaine as a precaution.
