HUGH MASEKELA DIES AT 78

Legendary jazz trumpeter Hugh Masekela, known as the father of South African Jazz, has died of prostate cancer.

Masekela gained global recognition with his distinctive Afro-Jazz sound and hits such as “Soweto Blues” and was synonymous with South Africa’s anti-apartheid movement.

South Africa’s President says Masekela’s death was “an immeasurable loss to the music industry and to the country at large” adding his contribution to the struggle for liberation will never be forgotten.”

Hugh Masekela was 78.
