Canada’s national anthem is now officially gender neutral after legislation changing the lyrics has received royal assent.

The line ”in all thy sons command” has now been replaced with ”in all of us command”.
Bill C-210 was signed into law by the Governor General’s secretary as Governor General Julie Payette is in South Korea ahead of the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics.
Canadian athletes already sang the new version during a flag-raising ceremony at the athletes’ village.
Since 1980, when it officially became the anthem, 12 bills have been introduced in the House of Commons to remove ”sons” from O Canada.
All attempts failed until now.
