Contract staff at York University have gone on strike after voting to reject the university’s final offer.

Contract faculty members, teaching, graduate and research assistants and part time librarians and archivists walked off the job at a minute past midnight.

There has been reassurance for students from the university that it will remain open during the strike and classes will not be affected.  Libraries, restaurants, administrative officers and other services are also expected to be operational during the labour disruption.
