HAMILTON SET A RECORD IN NOMS FOR BRITISH THEATRE AWARDS

The West End production of of “Hamilton” has set a record for the most nominations for Britain’s biggest theatre prizes, The Olivier Awards.
Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical about U.S. founding father Alexander Hamilton opened in London in December with a varied score ranging from pop ballads to sexy R&B, to rap battles.  It’s nominated in 13 categories.

Other Olivier contenders include actor Bryan Cranston for “Network” and Imelda Staunton, nominated for both “Follies” and “`Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”

Jez Butterworth’s Northern Ireland drama “The Ferryman” has eight nominations, all in non-musical categories.

The Oliviers will be handed out April 8.
