Canadians complaints about their banks led to an increase of 28% last year, according to the body that oversees a majority of the industry.
The Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments investigated 370 banking-related complaints – a majority about Scotiabank – and many dealing with bogus credit card charges.
O-B-S-I gets involved after customers and their financial institutions have not been able to come to an agreement on their own or through some dispute resolution channels.
The two largest banks – Royal and TD – have disputes handled by another similar agency.
There were 275 complaints against them last year – an increase of 22%.
