A new report says Canadians are among the heaviest wasters of food on Earth.
The Commission on Environmental Cooperation says – from farm to table, almost 400 kilograms of food each year – is wasted or lost – per every Canadian.
And the environmental group’s report says – food thrown out by consumers accounts for the biggest part of that – with food wastage creating 21 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions from landfills.
The commission also says restaurants should consider reducing portion sizes.
