The Supreme Court is to make a key ruling today which could impact every Canadian who likes a cold beer, a glass of wine or a shot of liquor from time to time.
It’s a case about inter-provincial trade triggered by a New Brunswick retiree, caught bringing 14 cases of beer and three bottles of liquor across the border from Quebec and fined $300.
On appeal, New Brunswick judge ruled the charge unconstitutional and overturned the ban on bringing alcohol across provincial boundaries.
The supreme court ruling could also impact restrictions on dairy products and eggs.
