The political ministers leading the NAFTA renegotiation process are leaving Washington – but talks will continue through the weekend without them.
What Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland describes as “a perpetual negotiating round” – comes amid efforts to get a deal by early May.
Freeland says the talks continue to focus primarily on automobiles – which she describes as the heart of the new agreement.
Sources say negotiators are now extremely close to an agreement on that issue – and are discussing fine details.
