Toronto City Council’s voted 26-15 in favour of a local community agreement reached with the consortium charged with expanding the gaming facility at Woodbine into a full-fledged casino, including live dealer tables.

The agreement requires 40% of new employees will come from the local area.
It’s estimated that the expanded facility will create 3,700 new permanent jobs by the end of 2022, rising to 4,600 three years later.
The expanded Woodbine casino will be part of a multi-use development that would include a hotel, restaurants, shops and office space.
There are also plans to build a multi-use entertainment venue next to the racetrack that could accommodate as many as 5,000.
Etobicoke North Councillor Michael Ford the plan will ultimately transform the northwest corner of Toronto.
