Ontarians believe dental coverage is as important as pharma coverage according to a just released poll from the Zoomers advocacy group CARP.

The survey asked if the new provincial government is only able to make a greater investment in one, which should it be.

Respondents were split.

46% would favour pharmacare.
44% would choose dental coverage.

CARP’s Laura Tamblyn Watts says that’s no surprise, adding members refuse to choose and that the new government must find a way to make sure all Ontarians are healthy and have adequate access to both.

”Dental care is health care.  Poor oral health has a significantly negative effect on your overall health,” says Tamblyn Watts.

Currently, the province does not cover dental care under OHIP, except for some programs for those with very low income, while many CARP members say they face some, considerable or extreme strain to pay for their medications.
