Speaking just hours after the Tories election victory, he promises to deliver.
”For now, I want the people of our great province to know, I will do everything in my power to live up to the faith you’ve put in me and my team.  A new day has dawned in Ontario and help is here.”
NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says she’s excited to take on her role as leader of the official opposition.
“What the people of Ontario have shown us is that they want a strong opposition to hold Mr. Ford and the Ford Conservatives to account.”
Kathleen Wynne recalls how in 2003, the then newly elected Liberals decided to grant official party status to the NDP, which also won just 7 seats – one below the threshold.
She hopes the Tories do the same now.
“I think it’s important.  I hope that Mr. Ford will agree.  I remember at the time, also in this room, when we talked about it, I remember one of the conversations was that or one of the points that someone made was ‘You know. one day we could find ourselves in the same position’.”
Doug Ford won’t say if he’d support changes to allow the Liberals to keep official party status, adding he’ll talk to his team about it.
Meanwhile, Ford’s hinting at the possibility of participating in Toronto’s Pride Month if organizers reverse their decision to exclude police from marching in the parade June 24th.
