The City of Toronto is set to receive a significant cash infusion from the provincial government to help local law enforcement fight gun violence.
A CTV News report says the Doug Ford PC’s at Queen’s Park will give the city $25-million to help Toronto Police, with the announcement coming down on Thursday.
News of this development comes shortly after Mayor John Tory sent a letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau renewing his call for a ban on the sale of handguns in Toronto.
In a statement to CBC Toronto, the prime minister’s office called the recent shootings in Toronto senseless tragedies and said its open to all options to reduce gun violence.
The statement added that gun control is a priority and there are plans to continue to work with Toronto and its other partners to keep communities safe.
