The province should stop its plan to revert to the old sex-ed curriculum.

That’s the message of a petition signed by nearly 1,800 health care professionals and delivered to the Ford government.

Signed by family doctors, pediatricians, nurses, midwives and social workers and endorsed by 19 organizations, the petition says the 1998 version, scheduled to be taught starting next month, could jeopardize the health and well-being of children because it’s incomplete and out-of-date.

They urge the Ford Tories to reinstate the 2015 curriculum.  NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says the rollback is the ”wrong thing” to do and shows the premier’s priorities are ”mixed up”.

Speaking for the group, Guelph family physician and mother, Dr. Andrea Chittle, says returning to the old curriculum is ”an affront to the youth of Ontario.”

Health Minister Christine Elliott welcomes the feedback but says the government wants to hear from parents and consultation with them begins in September.
