The number of Canadians who’ve driven a vehicle while high or have been passengers in such vehicles is ”alarming”.

According to Statistics Canada, 14% of cannabis users who have a driver’s licence admitted they got behind the wheel within two hours of consuming pot at least once in the past three months.
The survey results, released just two months before recreational marijuana becomes legal, also show 5% of Canadian over the age of 14 say they’ve been a passenger in a vehicle driven by someone who’d taken it in the previous two hours.
The group MADD – Mothers Against Drunk Driving – calls the numbers ”alarming,” pointing out they’re more than triple the rate of Canadians who drive after consuming alcohol in the preceding two hours.
But CEO Andrew Murie predicts the rate of drug-impaired driving will drop once police receive recently approved tools to test drivers for cannabis impairment.
