The most successful and prolific American playwright of the second half of the past century, has died.

Over the course of his career Neil Simon won three regular Tonys, plus one for special achievement, as well as a Pulitzer and the Mark Twain prize for humour.

Simon died yesterday morning of complications from pneumonia. He was 91.
