Bruce McArthur, who faces first-degree murder charges in the deaths of eight men tied to the city’s gay village, has waived his right to a preliminary hearing.
That means the 67-year-old self-employed landscaper’s case is going straight to trial, in this case by judge alone.
He will return to court November 5 to set a trial date.
McArthur made no eye contact with the families of his alleged victims who packed the small courtroom for today’s appearance.
Police arrested him in January and found the remains of seven men in planters at the Leaside home where McArthur had worked.
The eighth set of remains were found in a ravine behind the same property on Mallory Crescent.
Lead investigator, Inspector Hank Idsinga has called this the largest forensic investigation in the history of the Toronto Police Service.
