The rotating Canada Post strikes continue here in Toronto for a second day. The CUP-W twitter feed says the Toronto local continues to strike and that members should contact their local for more information.
The strike at two of Canada’s busiest postal sorting plants yesterday forced delays in shipments of tens of thousands of letters and parcels across the country as Canada Post employees step up pressure to back their contract demands.
The job action is virtually shutting down the Crown corporation’s sorting hubs in the Greater Toronto Area; the giant Gateway parcel facility in Mississauga, which processes roughly two-thirds of all parcels mailed in Canada, and the South Central mail plant in the Toronto’s east end.
Rotating work stoppages began on Monday. Union representatives plan to continue the rotating strikes until Canada Post negotiators improve their proposals for mail carriers.
