The member of the Ford government, who was publicly critical of its decision to eliminate the independent office of the French-language services commissioner and to stop the construction of a planned French-language university, says the ”partial backtracking” is not enough.

Amanda Simard, who represents a largely Franco-Ontarian riding, says she’s not satisfied by the government’s announcement late last week that it would create a commissioner position within the office of the ombudsman and establish a Francophone Affairs Ministry.

Simard adds she wants the changes completely reversed but is not saying if she would vote against her party’s legislation if that doesn’t happen.

She also says her party would not permit her to speak to a non-binding NDP motion set to be debated today that calls for the changes, announced in the fall fiscal update, to be revoked.

The Conservatives say Simard’s request was too late and that their list of speakers was already full.
