Opposition leader Andrea Horwath visited General Motors workers in Oshawa early this morning, letting the 2,700 who will lose their jobs next year when the plant closes that she is on their side.

The workers were stunned this week by news G.M. is going to shutter the Oshawa plant and four more in the U.S. to concentrate on building electric and self driving vehicles.
The N.D.P. Leader said the provincial government needs to get with the times and create an environment where Ontario is attracting the investment that build’s that future.  Instead, she says Premier Doug Ford has cut incentives for electric vehicles and has sent out signals that he is not interested in growing the green economy.
The head of the union representing 2,200 of the Oshawa GM workers, says the Premier’s reaction to the G.M. announcement flies in the face of his public reputation as being a “fighter for the people.”  Jerry Diaz says if Doug Ford isn’t prepared to fight for these jobs, he should just be quiet and get out of the way.
