Canada’s Yannick Nezet-Seguin is about to take a major step forward in a career that’s already as busy as a politician.
Tonight, the 43 year old Montrealer will make his debut as music director of the Metropolitan Opera in New York, conducting Verdi’s “La Traviata.”
Nezat-Seguin has been music director of Montreal’s Orchestre Metropolitain since 2000 and music director of the the Philadelphia Orchestra since 2012.
He was appointed as The Met music diector in September.
He’ll be back in Montreal December 21st to conduct Orchestre Metropolitain and calls it an absolute priority to maintain contact with his Canadian audience.
He says when he’s not working he heads home to Montreal for the weekends.
