A new art installation has been unveiled outside London’s Tate Modern gallery. It’s called “Ice Watch” and artist Olafur Eliasson says if you listen closely you will hear the ice melting.
The work, by the 50-year old Icelandic/Dane, consists of 100 tons of ice brought from a fjord in Greenland to to coincide with the climate change conference COP 24.
It is intended to highlight the fact that more than 250-billion tons of ice has melted since 2002 which works out to 500 tons a second.
The exhibition will last until the ice melts completely. Eliasson figures about half if it will be gone within a week.
