The 18-year-old from Mississauga has now beaten seven-time Grand Slam champ Venus Williams, another former world No. 1, in the quarter-final of the ASB Classic 6-7(1), 6-1, 6-3.
Andreescu won 11 straight games after losing the first set and falling behind 1-0 in the second.
”I believe that anything is possible and tonight I think I did the impossible,” said the teen after the match.
”I don’t even know what to say. It’s just such an amazing feeling.”
Andreescu, ranked No. 152 in the world, will now take on the tournament’s No. 3 seed Su-Wei Hseih of Taiwan in one semi-final no earlier than 12:15 a.m. ET Saturday morning.
The ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand is a warmup for the Australian Open.
