Andrea Horwath is convinced the Ford government wants to privatize healthcare.

The Opposition leader says that’s the only conclusion one can reach after going through the draft government bill New Democrats have obtained.

”If there was any doubt that this government is committed to massive privatization in healthcare, that doubt vanishes with this bill.”

Horwath has a message for the premier.

”If Doug Ford plows ahead with this healthcare privatization bill, he has got one hell of a fight on his hands.”

Health Minister Christine Elliott dismissed the opposition leader’s claims but then was pressed by reporters wanting to know if the PCs are going to privatize healthcare.

(Reporter) “Is this bill real?  Is this something your government is working on?  Have you been part of this

“This is a very early draft of legislation,” replied Elliott.

(Reporter) “Are you going to privatize the healthcare system?”

”We are committed to our public healthcare system and strengthening our public healthcare system,” said Elliott.

(Reporter) ”But will you allow private delivery?”

”We are committed to our public healthcare system. 

That’s what the people of Ontario expect.  That’s what we are going to deliver,” stressed Elliott.

The health minister added the NDP has cried wolf about the privatization of healthcare for years, adding it wasn’t true then and isn’t true now.
