Peter Tork’s passing was announced on his official Facebook page, attributed to his friends, family and colleagues. 

”Please know that Peter was extremely appreciative of you, his Torkees, and one of his deepest joys was to be out in front of you, playing his music, and seeing you enjoy what he had to share.”

While cause of death has not been released, Tork wrote about being diagnosed with a rare cancer in his tongue in 2009.

If the Monkees were a made-for-TV pop group, that imitated and briefly outsold the Beatles, then Peter was their lovably goofy Ringo.

He played mostly bass and keyboard for the Monkees and was the band’s oldest member when their TV show premiered in 1966.

It ran for just two seasons and Tork left the Monkees soon after the release of their 1968 movie ”Head”.

Monkees’ Davy Jones died in 2012 of a heart attack at the age of 66.

Surviving members Mickey Dolenz is 73, Michael Nesmith is 76.
