Cellist Yo-Yo Ma is a fine musician who is not afraid to call for social change.

He brought both to Flint, Michigan yesterday performing for more than 100 fans inside a city gym and lending his support to a city that’s still feeling the effects of a contaminated water crisis.

It was called “Day of Action.”

The stop in Flint was part of an effort by the 63-year-old musician to demonstrate culture’s power to create moments of shared understanding and spur a conversation about culture and society.

Cost cutting measures led to tainted drinking water that contained lead and other toxins in Flint. The problem has still not been rectified.
