BUFFY SAINTE-MARIE GOING INTO CANADIAN SONGWRITERS HALL OF FAME

Add Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame to Buffy Sainte-Marie’s long list of accolades.

Her 1964 peace anthem ”Universal Soldier” was inducted to the same hall in 2005.
Sainte-Marie will be inducted at the SOCAN (Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada) Awards in Toronto April 1.
Among her many accomplishments, an Oscar, BAFTA and Golden Globe Award for co-writing the song ”Up Where We Belong,” for the 1982 film ”An Officer and a Gentleman.”
The 78-year-old Sainte-Marie, a musician, Indigenous rights activist and educator, has also received several Junos and is an Officer of the Order of Canada.
