He was the rhythm section on hundreds of hits in the 60s and 70s.

Drummer Hal Blaine,  who played on songs featuring Frank Sinatra, the Beach Boys and thousands of others, died of natural causes yesterday at his home in Palm Desert, California at the age of 90.

Zoomers of a certain age will recognize Blaine’s drum riffs opening “Be My Baby,” by Ronnie Specter.

Blaine was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. Last year he was presented with a Grammy for Lifetime Achievement.
