The University of Toronto can expand its innovation and entrepreneurship programs thanks to a generous donation from power couple Gerald Schwartz, CEO of Onex Corp. and Heather Reisman, CEO of Indigo Books and Music.

They are giving the university $100-million that will be devoted to studying artificial intelligence and how it affects society at large.

”Toronto, and by extension Canada, is at the very centre of what’s happening with artificial intelligence,” said Reisman.

”It’s just our wonderful good fortune that some of the great brains in the world are here.”

The donation will help build a new innovation centre in their names.

Construction is set to begin this fall.
