In case you were wondering, Ontario’s finance minister says the Ford government will proceed with expansion of beer and wine sales into corner stores, big box outlets and more supermarkets.

With his first budget coming April 11, Vic Fedeli told the Empire Club that the Conservatives will make good on their pledge from last spring’s election.

He did not give any timeline however, but says the move will drive down prices and ensure the province does not need to privatize assets.

The government has previously said it has no plans to privatize LCBO stores despite a report last fall recommending it consider selling off some assets.

Fedeli says currently Ontario has the lowest density of stores selling beer, wine, spirits and cider in Canada with less than 3,000 compared to Quebec’s approximately 8,000.
