First a new licence plate, now the Ford government’s coming out with a new driver’s licence card this fall.

Like the licence plate, these cards will be blue and white with the redesigned Trillium logo.

Transportation Minister Jeff Yurek says the cards were last updated 12 years ago, and the industry standard is five to seven years to help fight fraud and identity theft.

As for the redesigned licence plates, they’ll be available in February after the current supply has run out. 

The province also says it’s resolved the problem with plates peeling and flaking and will now guarantee the plates for life.

And plates will remain on both the front and back of vehicles.

The government was considering getting rid of the front one.
