For the first time in nearly 15 years, a Canadian banknote has been named the best bill in the world.

The International Bank Note Society has recognized the new Canadian $10.00 as the winner of the 2018 Bank Note of the Year Award.

The bill features Canadian human rights icon Viola Desmond on the front and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights on the back.

Desmond refused to leave a white’s only section of a theatre in Nova Scotia in 1946 and is first woman outside the Royal Family to be featured on Canadian currency.

She died in 1965 at the age of 51.

The Viola-$10.00 was selected from a list of 15 finalists.
