Nature is in more trouble now that at any point in human history, with extinction looming for over one-million species of animals and plants.

That according to the United Nation’s first comprehensive report on biodiversity, which says it’s all because of humans, but, at the same time, it’s not too late to fix the problem. 

The report states species loss is accelerating to a rate tens or hundreds of times faster than before. 

More than 500,000 species on land ”have insufficient habitat for long-term survival” and are likely to go extinct, many within decades unless those habitats are restored. 

Oceans are not any better off. 

”Humanity unwittingly is attempting to throttle the living planet and humanity’s own future,” said George Mason University biologist Thomas Lovejoy, the so-called godfather of biodiversity, who was not part of this report. 

”The biological diversity of this planet has been really hammered, and this is really our last chance to address all of that,” added Lovejoy.
