Rising temperatures put a smile on many a Canadian’s face but rising pump prices have the opposite effect.
And as the price of gas begins its high summer season, the increases are causing some motorists to rethink their trips.
A new Angus Reid Institute survey shows in Ontario 46% of respondents are finding it difficult to afford necessities, while 28% disagree.
The survey also finds disagreement across the country over reasons for rising pump prices.
Federally, Conservative-minded Canadians overwhelmingly blame government taxes, while supporters of other parties are more likely to point the finger at oil companies.
One-in-three (35%) say they’ve been driving less, another quarter (26%) have been filling up less, while about one-in-five (18%) have driven out of town to fill-up, and even fewer (7%) have crossed the U.S. border to do so.
