Doug Ford said this familiar mantra just a couple of days ago, “The only poll that counts is on election day.”

Luckily for the premier, election day is not today.

A new Mainstreet Research poll shows support for the Doug Ford Tories has collapsed to a level never seen before by an incumbent premier.

Mainstreet’s Quito Maggi says his firm has never seen a premier become so unpopular barely a year into his or her mandate.

The governing Progressive Conservatives have slid to third with a rating below Kathleen Wynne’s at the end of her tenure.

Here are the numbers:

Liberals with almost 40 percent support
N-D-P with 24 percent
PC’s trail with 22 percent
and Greens have 12 percent support.

The poll also finds Liberal voters say Toronto Mayor John Tory is their most preferred choice to lead the Ontario Liberal Party. John Tory has never indicated he would be interested in leading the Ontario Liberal Party.
