With the public still reeling from the delivery of the final report from the province’s public inquiry into serial killer nurse Elizabeth Wettlaufer, the aftermath of her crimes forms the basis of a play set to open at the Blyth Festival north of London, Ontario on Wednesday night.

The play called ”In the Wake of Wettlauffer” tells the story of a fictional family making decisions for their elderly father, then grieveing his death and later finding out that he had lived in the same facility where Wettlaufer worked.

It’s production has polarized opinion however, even among the families of Wettlaufer’s victim’s, who were consulted by the playwrights.

Some plan to attend the play, while other plan to picket outside the venue.

The former nurse is serving life in prison after confessing in 2016 to killing eight of her patients at long term care homes in southwestern Ontario with lethal does of insulin.

”In the Wake of Wettlauffer” runs from Aug. 7th to Sept. 6th at the Blyth Festival Theater and will be accompanied by special programming about the play’s themes.
